Media is not "writable"?

Ok, I have a movie file that I want to burn unto a DVD disc so I can watch that movie file on my DVD player. I convert it to a DVD file using "Burn", then I try burning it unto the DVD disc. It processes, burns, but at the end an error message saying "media is not writable" shows up. How do I make media "writable"? Or more importantly, how do I burn a movie file unto a DVD so the empty disc becomes a DVD? Suggestions or help would be very, very appreciated.
One other thing, I also tried making the movie file an .iso but burning that gets me the same error message.

Are you using an external burner?

Which model of Mac do you have, and what version of OS X do you have installed?

I hope this info will help.

Are you trying to re-use a DVD-R that you have already burned? That can't work, you know!
Have you tried other brands of DVD-+R?
Have you tried other burning apps?
Do you get successful burns when NOT trying to make a video DVD?
Can you burn your DVD using iDVD?

. . . also try burning at a lower speed. For some reason, for videos, my Toast prefers that. iDVD was too painful.
