Messed up Privilages

H2OSX

iKnow (sometimes)
A while ago I deleted my first account I had on my computer because there were some problems with it. Now on my new account the privilages are messed up and I cant install some applications and i havent been able to get any of the updates from software update even though I have the admin password. The only things that i could think of to do, are to somehow reinstate my old account so the privilages are fixed, or to get some program or fix some preferences. If anyone has any ideas I would be very greatfull -- Thanks

Have you tried repairing permissions on the hard drive that you are experiencing these problems?
Applications --> Utilities --> Disk Utility

i once had the same problem. It turned out to be a Keychain mess up. I even trashed the Keychain preference but that did not help. Then a friend suggested changing my Admin password, log out, then log in, then go back and change your Admin password (System Preference->Accounts pane) back to the original password. That fixed the problem for me (I even did a Archive re-Install of OS X but it did not help.

I hope this helps. Good luck.

Nope, didnt work. I dunno if this helps but when I tried to install the programs from software update this warning came up " Make sure you have permission to write to /private/tmp/502/TempraryItems/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate, then try again."

Well, i repeat MBHockey. Run Disk Utility and highlight your startup drive and Repair Permissions. If that doesn't work, boot from the install disk and run disk Utiltiy from it and Repair Permissions.

If that doesn't fix it then re-install the latest OS X 10.3.3 Combined update.

In the future you may want to buy DiskWarrior. This little utility has fixed many of hacks I tested on my Macs that didn't work. IMHO DiskWarrior is the best Mac utility bar none.

Note: Please stay away of the discontinued Norton Utilities. In OS X it caused more problems than it fixed so they stopped developing it.
