microsoft messenger acting strangely

hi,
my problem is quite small but it has been driving me crazy.
the other day i downloaded the new msn (7.02) along with the new safary (4 beta), installed them and opened them.
msn didn't seem to be working (i couldnt open a chat window) so i quit. i then got one of those 'an error has occurred - report.. etc' messages. i clicked don't report and gave it another try. this time it opened properly and seemed to be working fine, except that every time i write to someone and clicked enter i have to re-click on the window to be able to continue writing, otherwise it just gives me error sounds. this is extremely annoying, especially since i'm practically anal retentive about my computer.
i own a macbook white with os 10.5.6.
if anyone can help me out with this, i would be extremely grateful.

I've seldom heard anything good about Messenger on the Mac. I have read reports about windows losing focus in Messenger when you have Safari 4 Beta installed. The fix is to uninstall that Safari beta, which will revert your Safari to the version 3 that you had installed before. The uninstaller is included with that beta download.
If you don't want to do that, then you could move to a more reliable chat app, such as Adium, or aMSN.
