Migration from iMac 10.3 to 10.4 or higher

I'm stuck in a quandry. I've asked the tech support, and their answer is about the same as Apple Tech. I have an iMac G5 PowerPC (3.0) 1.8 ghz 17" monitor and 2MB of ram running 10.3.9. Recently purchased Adobe CS4 which requires 10.4 or higher. Apple tech said they did not support and to by from a 3d party like ebay. Bought what I thought was the right upgrade -- iMac G5, version 10.4, AHT version 2.5.1 Disc version 1.0 -- the disc will not work on my computer. An alert message indicates that this software cannot be installed on my computer.
Again called Apple Tech and they were less than helpful. Asked macos tech and his answer offered no solutions.
Is there a work around us use the disc I bought? Are there other approaches? It appears that an upgrade directly to 10.5 is a possibility, but in reading the details of the packages 10.4 must be installed first. I'm looking for an inexpensive way to get Adobe CS4 operational on this iMac. All help appreciated.
Thanks

First thing to know that if the install disk is grey then it is an upgrade disk that is coded for the ONE Mac and can not be installed on other Macs. You must buy a Retail 10.4.X. disk to upgrade.

...and you can skip from 10.3 directly to 10.5 if you like. There is no need to install 10.4 in the interim.

For future purchases, be sure you purchase a retail copy of OS X (whatever version you desire) -- and avoid system-specific (the gray-colored discs you received from eBay) discs.
