Minimize all...

Anyone know of a way to minimize EVERY open window from EVERY application?

I know option + minimize will minimize all windows associated with the window's application, but I'm looking for a "hide all" much like the OS9 feature... so ONLY my current application's windows will remain open...

Can you do this in X?

I usually option + click to "hide" an application and all it's windows, but a friend of mine uses the minimize method in x and it got me thinking about using this as a feature when giving presentation reviews... often times these meetings are with little to no notice and involve lots of people crowding around my desk.

I'd like to be able to hold a few keys down to clean up all the background windows very quickly.

Any ideas?

Okay, Okay, there's a selection called "Hide Others" and it even gives the key command in OS X 10.2...

I was using a 10.1.5 system and I couldn't find it... but it seems to be a feature added in 10.2

Is there a key command to hide others in 10.1.5? Or am I right in the fact that this was added in 10.2?

Thanks,

Command + shift + H doesn't hide all on my 10.1.5 system... are you sure those are the keys for 10.1.5?

Download ASM from versiontracker.com
Application Switcher Menu

It brings back the old OS 9 menu bar in the upper right that shows your open apps. It also has
Hide <current apps>
Hide Others
Show All

Howabout this: make whatever application you want the active application, then hit command-option-h to "hide others." It's under the application menu if you want to do it that way as well.

I don't know of a way to minimize all inactive windows, though. I know only of the hiding method I just described.

sorry your right.. I have Youpi Hot key and there is a option in that to set Hide Others -- I must have set it a long time ago and forgot about it..

Hide Others in 10.1.5
:)

I was reading through this thread to see if anybody had posted the method of Command-Option clicking on the Dock icon to leave only that app visible. When I read the above shortcut, I actually mistyped it as Command-Option-H, which did do the sought-after 'Hide Others' and is even listed in the application menu as such.

(And yes, that's in 10.1.5. Still haven't found an affordable copy of Jagwire yet. I'm either gonna spend a day backing up my drive for a clean install, or shell out a hundred bucks, but not both.)

If you hold the Command and Option keys while clicking an icon in the dock, Jaguar will hide everything except the application you clicked; if you're in Explorer and Command-Option click the finder icon in the dock, everything else will be hidden (when you let up the Command and Option keys).

It does work, however, if you hold down command+option and click in another applications *window*. Then it hides all other applications. I just tried all the combinations above, and this is the way it *actually* works.

I'm using window shade to set my minimize button to hide the app. So, all windows will hide. It ends the minimize effect and when you click the icon app again it shows quickly!

Show Desktop is what I use.
Works the same as M$ Window's taskbar Desktop icon.

Just drag the icon to the applications folder to install, then drag it from your applications folder to your startup items in System Preferences/Login Items. :)

When it's running (in your dock), just click it and EVERY WINDOW disapears, showing only your desktop 'n dock.

wow, option clicking around is cool!! thanks for the tip! option+click itunes from chimera; chimera hides and itunes pops up. option+click itunes again and itunes hides and chimera pops back up! it remembers!

I use it 50 times a day and I have 2 monitors - it is simple and very effective.

There is also DeskShadePlus that hides all desktop icons.
