Missing home button in settings>general with OS4

Recently came across a function suggestion that you could display the iPod controls when in another app by double clicking the home button. I don't seem to have a 'home button' option in settings and found a forum thread saying it was gone with OS4. That said the OS4 manual mentions setting the home button function for iPod controls on p160.

Could some kind soul clarify the situation for me?

If you're running iOS 4 with an iPhone 3GS or better (you didn't say), then simply double-click the home button to bring up the task switcher, then swipe left (er, swipe your finger RIGHT, effectively navigating to the left). The iPod controls should be there.
