Mounting Failed

I have been attempting to update my OSX software on my Mac. Initially I did it through my menus using the software update option. This resulted in me getting an error message reading "A networking error has occurred: Error NSURL Error Domain - 1005 (-1005)". I then went to the apple site and manually attempted to download the update to Mac OSX 10.4.11, then Mac OSX 10.4.10 and finally Mac OSX 10.4.9. Each time I get an error stating that "Mounting failed". I don't know what step to take next. I have a new iPod touch and need the updated software to run the newest version of iTunes so that I can sync my iPod to my computer and transfer files. Thank you for your help!

I see that you said on another thread that you are limited to dialup. The large OS X updates can be tough to download on dialup.
Do you know anyone with a high-speed connection? You can download the file, even to Windows, then copy to an external hard drive, or USB flash drive, or burn to a CD. Then you would have a good copy to install on your Mac.
