MPEG 1 and Up!

Yep, That's Me!
How do I convert an MPEG1 file to a higher quality format like MPEG 2? What is the highest format possible? I have QT Pro and I was looking under the export function and there are many different kinds if formats. What I am trying to do is burn a DVD containing some home movies, but the software I use to record the video only records in MPEG 1 format, and that doesn’t look good on a TV. So what I’m trying to say is what is the heist possible quality and how to I achieve it/use it

Well, DVDs use MPEG2 format video, so a DVD has to be encoded as mpeg2.

However, if you have MPEG1 content, transcoding it to MPEG2 will not automatically improve the quality. If your source is low quality, no matter what you do, it will always be less than or equal to the original quality.

Converting the stream will not increase the quality, though -- you've got an MPEG1 file, so converting it will just wrap it in an MPEG2 wrapper. It's like re-encoding an MP3 -- it just gets worse the more times you encode it.

Oh, I see. In order for me to use MPEG 1 with iDVD I need to export the MPEG as a .mov, Right?

you need to export it to a non-encoded format. DV is the easiest to work with, but i think iDVD will import Quicktime as well.
