If I download Apple software updates updates, should I avoid running other programes at the same time (especially during installation)?

I rarely stop what I'm doing while they install, and I've never run into any problems.

I don't run anything else while running any of Apple's updates.

I just wonder whether you shouldn't run another programme during the actual installation/optimizing phase of an install (i.e. it is safe to run programmes during the earlier downloading phase).

Unless it forces me to, I don't quit any applications and don't have any problems. Sometimes you have to quit some programs like Safari if Webkit is being updated but otherwise there's not really any reason why you need to.

i usally have several major apps open when my mac is updating, and have yet to ever have any problems. the auto update window pops up, i tell it to go ahead and update, and then go back to work, until the software update icon starts bounching to tell me to restart. then i hide it until i'm done for the night, and just turn my mac off. i really don't think that you really have anything to worry about.
