Need recommendation for Cell Phone/PDA w/ Bluetooth

JPigford

I'm awesome...seriously..
Like the title says, I'm looking for a new cell phone that could double as a PDA and also has Bluetooth and can sync to my mac. Ideas?

I have a Sony Ericcson T616. I don't know if it does the PDA thing, but it does have a calendar and contact list that syncs with iSync. Bluetooth support is pretty good, except for the fact that my contacts' workplaces don't update on sync for some reason.

I would not recommend this phone, however. Its interface sucks; options are strewn about and don't make sense. Waaaaay too many questions pop into the head when you try to dig into the bowels of the phone. The small keys are annoying too.

On the upside, I have an aqua theme installed. :)

Hmmm... I would recommend against PDA-Cell Phone-Bluetooth all-in-one devices -- sure, they can do three things, but they don't do any of them particularly well.

Hoeabout a separate cell phone, and a Blackberry device? Everyone I know that has a Blackberry loves it, and most have Bluetooth built-in.

I can't vouch for Mac OS X compatibility of the Blackberries, though...

Just my $0.02...

I'm currently tossing up between the Nokia 6822, Treo 650 and Nokia 9500.

Kap

supposedly pocketmac (http://www.pocketmac.net/) will do the trick with any blackberry devices.

don't know from experience though.
I like my t610, but it's not perfect. I just can't find the next thing I'll be as happy with w/o paying $500 and up...

The Treo 650 is what life is about (ok to a geek maybe)...it has all the features you need, the proven Palm OS, great screen, thousands of available apps to make life easier, bluetooth for a headset, car adapter etc. Plus I use it with my powerbook for online access anywhere I have a cell signal. It has its own built in browser for occasonal use, but using it as a modem is a great feature. I have been REALLY happy with mine.

Powerbook 12"
Powerbook 17"
Treo 650
Entourage for contact managment
Mapopolis for finding your way
PowerOne for financial calculations
mVoice for recording meetings and important info

Treo 650 is the way to go!

i have a blackberry 7290. (actually most don't have bluetooth built-in - 7290 is one of the few) but I won't every use anything else again. I freakin' love the thing. There are so many hacks and tricks you can do with this thing. to be able to SSH into my Xserve at home and then run BitchX irc from the server and hang out in the mac channels is worth the price of admission. you can also get a version of Opera for the 7290 so you don't have to use the crappy browser that they come with.

PocketMac works great with iCal, (even with multiple calendars - they ALL show up on the blackberry) Address Book etc all through iSync.

the only issue I wish was resolved is that iSync doesn't support Bluetooth syncing with the Blackberry yet.

Well, I picked up the Blackberry 7100 (t-mobile flavor) today.
while it's a great phone, and the predictive text system is utterly sick how well it works, the connectivity issues bother me.

it's got Bluetooth, but it's really only for pairing a BT headset. I can pair it with my powerbook, but there are no functions with the powerbook pairing. I can use pocketmac to sync w/ ical, add book, tasks, etc, but it's via the usb cable. I don't want to step backward and be tethered to my powerbook to sync my phone...

I'll give it a few more days before I decide if I keep or return it. I'd kill for the treo 650, but my wife would kill ME if I spent that much on a phone...
we'll see I guess.

i was thinking about getting a Treo 650 w/ Verizon when my contract is up but the whole cellphone Virus coming to the west coast of the US

"Variants of the Cabir virus, which infects bluetooth capable mobile phones running the Symbian operating system, have been spreading the past few months. A version of Cabir has turned up in two Nokia 6600s that were on public display in a Santa Monica, California shop window. The phones could have easily been spreading the virus to other bluetooth devices as they passed by, no additional instances have been reported."
