A friend of mine accidentaly threw out safari 2.0 from the applications folder, and I can't find my 10.4 installation disk. Where can I get the 2.0 download??, and why doesn't apple allow you to download it? I don't want to go out and buy another copy of 10.4 just to get safari 2.0.

If your friend did not empty the Trash then Safari is still on your hard drive. You just have to find it. Use Spotlight to search for it.

you could try Pacifist. It's an application that allows you to look inside installer packages so you can extract a specific component without needing to go through the entire install process. I used it once to extract DVD Player from my install disc after I upgraded my eMac DVD drive. I've never tried with Safari, but I guess it should be in there somewhere.

Yep -- just to reiterate, there is no way to get Safari 2.0 without the original install CDs/DVDs. It's not available for download, so you're going to have to get it off the Mac OS X Install media or copy it from another computer.

You could try installing WebKit, which is available in nightly builds. Of course that could raise other issues...though it has been stable for me so far.

Have you tried copying it over from another computer running Tiger?

Thanks for all the help... We'll I took my 10.4 coupons that came with my computer went to the apple store and they let me burn a copy of safari(actually they burned it not me)

What is the purpose of not having safari as a downloadable package? 2.0 doesn't even really work with 10.3 or lower so that's not a reason. Has anyone tried running safari on a windows machine? Something is strange about this, does it have something to do with a settlement? hmmmmmm

free software that isn't freely distributable.

Well, safari is included with Mac os X, so theirs really no reason for people to download it, except in odd situations, like yours. They probably just want to save bandinwich, our did not forsee problems like yours.
