Need Suggestions for G5 RAM / Audio workstation

Hi everyone.
I just ordered a G5-- of course, I didn't buy the RAM from Apple.
I ordered a dual 2.5 (yipeee !!) :)

I want to get either 4gb or 8gb of RAM (in 1Gb sticks)

but am completely confused by my options..
Could someone make a suggestion for me ?

I'd like to get reallllly stable RAM but at the same time get as much as possible for my money. I'm scared to buy a brand I haven't heard of, but when I look at the specs, they seem to be just as good as the more expensive RAM from Kington/Crucial

I plan to be running Logic 7 mostly.

I'm confused mainly about a few things.. 1. how much does latency matter -- from places like barefeats.com, it seems I'll get only a 2-4 % increase in performance with much better RAM... but, they don't really comment on program/system stability

Does anyone know much about these brand names:
(they all seem to have pretty good prices available)

PQI
Patriot (PDP)
Omni Technologies

What about registered vs. unbuffered ??? (will one work in the G5 and the other not.. is one better ??)

Also, another question I have is, I've heard (from posts I've found here), that G5s are really picky about ram, so this complicates matters even more... how am I supposed to know if the RAM is okay for the G5 ? aside from just sucking it up and spending the extra bucks on Crucial

If I was buying just a little bit of RAM the extra few bucks wouldn't bother me, but when you do the math for 4gb or 8gb it turns out to be a whole lot of money (which I don't have hehehe )

Anyway, thanks so much for taking the time to read this.

Cheers,
beta

Whatever memory you purchase must be PC3200 with the following specs:
• 2.5 volt
• 184-pin module
• Maximum number of memory devices on DDR SDRAM:16
• Nonparity
• Non-error-correcting (NECC)

Get the cheap stuff if you must - you may not have any problems - just make sure when purchasing that you can return if it doesn't work.

I ALWAYS recommend booting to the Apple Hardware Test (comes with your G5) and running the extended test on new memory.

Is anyone using the cheaper RAM with great success ? If so, which brand ?

I've heard lots of comments about Crucial being overpriced.
Is there any validity to that ?

thanks a lot for the feedback !!

I bought 2 512 MB DIMMS from memorytogo.com. I've ordered from them twice. No problems, both times. The first time was a single 512 for my iMac. Their prices were very good.

If I remember correctly, there's a set of scrolling lists on the left side of the screen. Select Apple and your Power Mac model.
