I was given an iTouch for Christmas but my iBook G4 has 10.3.9. Should i upgrade to 10.4 or higher? Should I also install more RAM? It seems everyone has a different opinion on what to do. It says I have 25.54 GB available.

Processor: 1 GHz PowerPC G4
Memory: 640 MB DDR SDRAM

Hardware Overview:

Machine Model: iBook G4
CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (3.3)
Number Of CPUs: 1
CPU Speed: 1 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 256 KB
Memory: 640 MB
Bus Speed: 133 MHz
Boot ROM Version: 4.7.7f0

At the moment you are good for upgrading to 10.4, you have enough memory and speed for that. However, your iBook is able to run 10.5, which is always the best to do because it's the most recent, although I would upgrade to 1.25 GB of ram before doing so. It is possible to run 10.5 of of 640 MB, but I wouldn't recommend it. You can get ram Here

Having 10.5 is really nice simply because there are a lot of new features, so if you are going to spend money on a system, why not go for the newest? And I'm sure it'll probably work better with your iPod Touch just because it's newer.

And of course you can find the 10.5 disc a lot of places, just make sure you are getting the NON computer specific disc, which means you want to get the one that is black (the computer specific disc is grey).

All iBooks have a single memory upgrade slot.
The older G3s can have up to 512MB added in that one slot.
All G4s can have a 1 GB chip in that slot, so the OPs can be upgraded to 1.12 GB, which would be a Good Thing™ if you upgrade to Leopard.

I was going by Apple specifications for the original ibook G4 which the OP has. If you are not using Apple specifications that could probably work as well.
