Networking Tiger to XP Pro

Hi all, this is my first post. I have searched through and can't find the answer anywhere, so I am posting this in the hope someone can explain in simple terms how to file share between a G5 Powermac running Tiger, and a PC running XP Pro. The two computers are only 3 metres apart, so a cable shouldn't be a problem.

So what do I need to buy in the way of cables/cards, and software?
or can it be done for the price of a USB cable?

Could someone please explain in simple terms what I have to do so that I can pass files between these computers.

Big thanks in advance.

No software needed, just an Ethernet cable, providing your PC has ethernet.

Right click the drive on the PC and setup Sharing. Your Help Menu on each machine will Help you.

On the Mac, go to the System preferences to Sharing. Turn on Personal File Sharing and Windows Sharing.

Then on the Mac, use the Go Menu to Connect to Server, click Browse.

Thanks for the info. But my ethernet is being used for the net. Both the mac and pc link to a network switch, which then goes to the satellite internet connection. I don't have any other ethernet ports on the mac or PC.

Steve, both machines are on the the subnet network (both go into the ethernet switch before they go out to the net). Bob's instructions will work if both machines can get to the net.
