New HardDisk on G4 MDD

What kind of hard disk drive will give great performance on a G4 1Ghz DP MDD w/MacOSX. I don't want to spend money needlessly, and don't want to pay over the odds by paying twice as much for a little 10% boost, so what's the "sweet spot" of value for money vs performance?

I don't really get the diff between ATA, Ultra ATA, IDE, EIDE and half the sites I look at don't mention mac compatibility.

I would highly recommend a 120GB Western Digital Special Edition (8MB cache). I've installed five or six of them in different machines, ranging from two drives in a Mac in a RAID, one as a system drive, one as a data-only drive, and two in a RAID in a Windows machine. They're quiet, fast, reliable, and you can't beat the price vs. performance.

The 200GB drive is an excellent value as well, and offers similar performance:

I have a dual 867 MDD and i have twin western digital 200gb special edition 8mb cache drives in them and love them. I have the 120 gb version in my webserver. I personally have had bad luck with seagate. I have had good luck with western digital and maxtor and the old quantum drives. as mentioned before I would definately get a 7200 rpm drive, they arenoticably faster, not incredibly faster though. I did a "side by side" test and noticed a speed improvement with the 7200 vs the 5400 drives. It was nothing scientific by any stretch though.
