I am running two older model iMac G3s - a 400 MHz and a 350 Mhz. They both have 384 mb RAM and are running Mac OS X v10.3.9 with Mail v1.3.11 (v622/624).
Up until recently, they both worked fine. Mine still does. For some reason, on my girlfriends computer, the 350, whenever a new email comes in the "New Mail Sound" doesn't play correctly. I have it set to play a WAV file, just as it always has, but when it tries to play it, the only thing we hear sounds like a needle being drug across a record for a split second instead of the voice announcement it should play.
I tried to remove the sound files from Mails preferences using Add/Remove, but they were not listed there although they were still listed in the list of sound choices. I removed them manually from the Library/Sounds folder and had Mail re-add the WAV file using the Add/Remove option in Mail. No good. I pull Add/Remove back up and the file isn't listed there. It's still in the choices and it is still in the Library/Sound folder.
I forget to mention that when I select the WAV from the list of choices, the audio plays just fine.
I removed Mails Preferences and let it rebuild that. Still get the same thing. I am at a total loss. Hopefully, someone here will be able to help. She really misses Bugs Bunny telling her when she gets new mail
