New Powerbooks with 10.2.7?

Ripcord

This may have been posted elsewhere and I've just missed it, but I've been reading messages where people are saying that their new 15" Powerbooks are coming loaded with OS X 10.2.7.

Any confirmation of this? I wonder why 10.2.7 wasn't released to the rest of us, since it doesn't appear to have been an update just for some G5-related functionality... I suppose they wanted to skip this and go straight to 10.2.8 for the general public, which didn't go over so well...

My new 17" has x.2.7

See my thread. x.2.6 wont even run on my new book, nor will it boot from anything other than the restore DVD that came with it.

I went to compusa and had a look at the 15" and it had 10.2.7 installed. I thought that the 10.2.7 install was only for the G5s.. Guess I was wrong :p

It's a different build of 10.2.7 that's made for the Powerbooks, as opposed to the build made for the G5's.

Confusing, no? ;)

confusing, yes.

Even more confusing is that on the new 15" at the apple store , the "about this mac" window said 10.2.7 (G5). But the one I bought just said 10.2.7.

will you be able to update to 10.2.8 than? Since 10.2.8 seemed not to have any support for the G5, I am wondering how the next update for 10.2.7 will be, if there is any at all

Same here. ;) They did it a month before for 10.1 and 10.2 didn't they?

Nothing unusual about Apple providing a special build of the OS for newly released hardware, then include that hardware support in the next main release for all systems. They've done this since way early in Mac (probably Apple II also)
