CVE-ID: CAN-2004-1029
Impact: Updates Java to address an issue where an untrusted applet could gain elevated privileges and potentially execute arbitrary code.
Description: A vulnerability in the Java Plug-in may allow an untrusted applet to escalate privileges, through JavaScript calling into Java code, including reading and writing files with the privileges of the user running the applet. Releases prior to Java 1.4.2 on Mac OS X are not affected by this vulnerability. Further information is available in Document ID 57591 from Sun
 
Is it me or has this security update fixed the loophole in safari where pop-up (pop-under) ads started to show up? i am pretty certain that Safari is now blocking pop-under ads..... everything else is running smoothly as always.
 
I noticed after installing 10.3.8, I too had the Safari problem. Since this update (10 mins ago) no sign of a pop up yet.
 
No way...still getting them after the security update, and looking at the Apple Disccusion Forums, many people there are still getting these annoying pop-unders.
 
It wasn't 10.3.8 that opened the loophole, apparently. It was always there. Just a coincidence. Can't remember where I read that. Oh, yeah . . check Macsurfer.com. The link was on there.

Well, mine's just picked up the Secutiry Update 2004-09-16 - something tells me that ain't right.

How do you refuse updates that aren't relevant? I still have an update for the Airport Base station, which I don't have.
 
click on the one you don't want and do command - delete

or select it and click Ignore Update in the Update menu
