new to OSX - trying to image a drive

Hi, I teach and have some older G3's (all in ones) I recently got at an auction (9 units). I have a brand new OSX 10.4 and tried to rebuild all 9 G3's by doing this:
Formatted the G3's hd using a OS9.2.2 cd, pulled the drive out, attached it to an external USB hd, then applied an image from one I made previously (in a OS 9.2.2 machine). Everything seemed to go smoothly, but unhappy face at boot on G3's (OS 9.2.2 DISK FIRST AID didnt help). Then just tried to drag and drop using the external, again no boot.
Should I try getting the Emac in "classic" mode, then reimage using DiskCopy 6.4, then try using the new disk image?

million thanks,

Are you trying to boot 10.4 or 9.2.2 on those machines? The All-In-One G3 model is not compatible with OS X 10.4, but it is possible to install it on there...

If you're trying to load 10.4 on those machines, it would be best to partition the drives -- something small for OS 9, and the rest for OS X, as you'll need the help of OS 9 to boot OS X on those machines. Check out:

On top of that, if the G3s don't have DVD drives, you'll need to send in to Apple for 10.4 CDs.
