Hi, I'm new to the forums and I just bought an Imac last summer. Well my problem started when I partitioned Windows XP on my Mac and then I got a virus (I didn't have Anti Virus Protection I was dumb!) and I decided to try to go back to my Mac disk and try to erase or wipe my drive. I wanted to move all my memory back to my Mac side to restore all my gigs and have only Mac on my computer and not Windows. When I loaded up Boot Camp, it would not let me run the program because I had to have the start up disk reformatted to one Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume or already partitioned by Boot Camp Assistant. So I'm stuck. I tried to load up my Mac OS X disc to try to reinstall Mac on my empty partition and see if I could do anything on that to transfer memory back. Well now I am stuck with two Mac disks on my Imac and I just want one single disk with all my memory on it. I know this is really long but I need your help. Thank you. - Joey V

Easiest (and "cleanest") way:

1) Back up your essential data onto an external drive.
2) Boot from the OS X Install/Restore DVD.
3) When booted, select a language when prompted.
4) Select "Disk Utility" from the "Utilities" menu.
5) Highlight your drive (the non-indented entry) in the left-hand sidebar of Disk Utility.
6) Select the "Partition" pane.
7) Select "1 Partition" and ensure the format is set to "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)"
8) Select "Apple Partition Map" (for PowerPC iMac) or "GUID" (for Intel iMac) from the "Options..."
9) Click "Partition"

Then, quit Disk Utility and you can proceed with installing a fresh copy of OS X on your hard drive, which now has one and only one partition for Mac OS X.

After that, restore your essential data from the backup.
