Nikon digital camera help

My dad got a nikon 5700 for christmas, its great but got a problem... every so often when he goes to take a photo, red writing comes on the screen saying that the speedlight (flash) wont fire as its in the closed position. the flash wont fire then and the photos are all blurry cause of the slower shutter speed. The flash pops up so it 'isnt in the closed position' ive read the manual it says to make sure the user setting is in setting A, which i do and it starts working again... sometimes... and sometimes it doesnt,... its only 3 days old now
It also says something about a sensor on the front of the camera and to make sure that its not covered.... which it isnt...
Any ideas would be great as its driving us nuts....!!!!!

I dunno... have you tried tech support from Nikon?

Are you sure your finger isn't accidentally covering the sensor when you go to take the picture?

nope, definitely not! ive tried holding it in loads of different positions....
ive emailed their tech support and am waiting... just thought id try here aswell as someone else might have come across it...
