Not able to Upgrade OS 10.2.8 to 10.4

I am attempting to upgrade my G4 Tower from OS 10.2.8 to OS 10.4.

When I boot from the Install Disc I receive an error message that says "This software cannot be installed on this computer."

I have searched many forums looking for an answer and can find none.

Please help.

First question...
is the install disk a 'Black' retail disc, or is it a grey install disc specific to another Apple computer model?

The disc is a grey disc associated with my Powerbook g4. I spoke to a friend literally 30 min and he let me know that the disc was my problem.

Do you know of a way to make it work with the grey disc?

Here's a possibility. Boot the PowerBook to that disk. Connect to your G4 tower with a Firewire cable, and boot the G4 tower while holding the T key. You'll see a floating Firewire icon on the tower's screen. Choose the tower's hard drive (it will be available) from the PowerBook installer, as the destination.
Should warn you, it's not strictly legal to install the operating system on a different model. That's one of the reasons that Apple makes it difficult (one computer, one license to install on that computer)

While we're on the subject of "not exactly legal installs",
another method, should DeltaMacs suggestion not work, would be to follow the Target Disc bit, but instead of using the install disc, download and run SuperDuper or even Carbon Copy Cloner on your PB and clone the PowerBook to your G4 Tower which will be showing as a HDD.
I've done this in the past between different G4 models without any problems.
