Not receiving emails

I am working on a MacBook Pro OS X and my server is Tiscali. I can send
out emails but cannot receive them unless I go onto a webmail system
which is annoying because I cannot retain addresses on the same system.
I have asked Tiscali about this and I have changed codes and altered various settings but with no luck. They now tell me it is a Mac problem!!
Can you help?

I am not the one to help you, but a Guru might if you post what program you are using--Mail, I presume--which may or may not be compatible with this Tiscali server--I do not know. You may also wish to post what your setting are.

What os version are you running on ?Try configuring the same settings in a different user,check if it is working fine in different user. If it works fine drag the mail folder and plist from the home library in your own account and then try to launch mail configure the settings again and then restore mails from the mail folder which is on your desktop
