Number of Clients 10.3.9 vs. 10.3 server 10.4 server -- can I increase the # ?

Hi there,

I have a Mac running 10.3.9 (not server) with File Sharing and Windows sharing enabled. I have about 3 macs and 12 or so PCs that need to connect to a share on the mac.

Does this exceed my available number of file sharing connections?

If so, is there anyway I can increase this # of available client connections ?

if not, can I /upgrade/ the machine to Server to get more available client connections or would I have to do a fresh install of Server ?

I'm kinda stuck because I need people to have continued access to this box and I can't really take it offline to install a fresh os, reconfigure, do testing, etc. etc. etc..

any suggestions would be appreciated,
thanks.

I figured out the answer... OS X can handle 10 concurrent connections.
OS X server unlimited can handle more...
I have 10.3.9 on the machine.. if I purchase OS X server unlimited, I can install a layer of server over 10.3.9 non-server.

Or, I can do a fresh install of server unlimited and run a user migration tool to move my users over from the original volume.

You would have to do a fresh install and migrate the users over. There are a few tools that would help, but ALWAYS backup before you do anything.

The 10-client limitation vs. the unlimited client functionality is only a matter of the serial number you use, and Mac OS X Server all the way back to 10.1 (I believe) lets you change the serial number via Server Admin or some utility that comes with Mac OS X Server.

True but, if I read correctly, he had OSX CLient installed not server. Server would require the reinstall.
