Office OSX saves Formatting HELP

Hi,

I hope this is the correct forum for this question. I use Office and have used it without problems for about 1 1/2 years. Now, all of a sudden, everytime I save anything, the SAVE saves all of the background words of the formatting along with my documents. This is happening in both WORD and Excel... it looks like the sample below. I have taken out my name, but other than that, all is there, plus whatever my document is. I ask it to save in the word format, I've asked for Text... in the beginning, it was fine. I feel that somehow some "switch" got turned on, and I need to turn it off... any help would be greatly appreciated... THE X'S are where my name was in the formatting... Thank you... Artist

You may want to reset the defaults for Word, Make sure Word (and all other Office Apps are quit. find and delete these files:
Word Settings (10)
Microsoft Office Settings (10)
Microsoft Component Preferences
com.microsoft.Word.plist

The first 3 are in your user/Library/Preferences/Microsoft folder. The last is in your user/Library/Preferences folder
Then restart Word and try a sample save, that should fix your problem, but there's a variety of Save settings in your Word preferences, your documents should normally be saved as Word documents, unless you have some reason to save them in a different format, such as a basic Text file or RTF (Rich Text format) You wouldn't change the Save settings in normal use, but they can be saved for one-time in the Save As window.

Hi Delta Mac,

Just wanted to let you know I did what you said, and it worked like a charm. You're a wonder, and I thank you very much for taking the time to help out. I've been going nutz trying to figure that one out... I have no idea of how it happened in the first place. One day it was fine, and the next it was mucked up. All of my word docs have returned to their original form now. Like a miracle when you don't know how it happened. ;)
Thanks again, I really appreciate the help and this forum...

Anytime - This is the type of prob that I've seen even on Win systems (it's a little stranger to pick out the right settings files). The other file that can get corrupted is the Normal template that is used to create a new file. Find that one and delete it. (yours is fixed for now, but file that info away for the future) MS apps seem to occasionally corrupt one or another of its own pref files. Go Figure! Lots of names, I call it Microslop ! :D

And check to make sure you're saving in the right format (Microsoft Word Document), which you can select when you save.

Doug
