OmniWeb 4.1 beta 7 released

Gone
The subject pretty much says it all.

From the release notes:
Bug Fixes

- Tables

¤ Fixed a table bug that affected the http://discussions.info.apple.com forum that was caused by the calculation of percentage widths based on the specified width of the table rather than the width that the table actually ended up being forced to.
¤ Fixed some cases where tables would lay out incorrectly with content being overlapped/truncated by other content. This should reduce the frequency of incorrect layout people reported at many sites including:

¤ http://www.mactech.com/online/

- JavaScript

¤ Fixed a JavaScript crasher.
¤ Fixed some parsing bugs encountered when using JavaScript to change a frame's location or a form's action.
¤ A JavaScript problem that prevented Adobe Illustrator™ help files from displaying in OmniWeb is now fixed. Adobe Photoshop™ and Adobe GoLive™ help will also display.
¤ Fixed bug #4187: Location property of window created with window.open not accessible. Fixes a JavaScript problem that sometimes prevented the properties of any window created by JavaScript from being accessed resulting in blank popup windows at some sites like http://www.tvguide.com and http://www.kpig.com/.

And there's more, but I want to beat simX to the announcement. ;)

OW 4.1b7 (Build 410) is rock solid for me, even better than sp88 and sp89. [I love version numbering schemes.]

however there seems to be a newer bug with macosx.com. the message icons below the subject input field are distorted. i've posted this to the list and hope it'll be fixed in the next build(s). this cropped up in sp88, i believe...

With hyatt taking a break from chimera development you guys get all the new release threads :). This summer when he comes back though I'll be back with him ;).

However, if Hyatt is being courted by Apple, then maybe development on Chimera will disappear into Apple, and you'll only be able to get the final release thread! ;) But if that is really the case, then we're in for a treat anyway.

See this thread for a discussion (stemming from the use of Chimera for Apple's Xserve demonstration)--especially serpicolugnut's post. We can always hope . I think it would be great if Apple adopted Chimera.

It would be cool if Apple did adopt Chimera as it's Official OS X browser instead of IE, but personally I just think it's wishful thinking. But like homer said, "We can always hope". I've used Chimera since .1, but the one thing it needs before I would use it as my main browser is a download manager. I hate having to use Download Wizard, etc.

As for Omniweb 4.1b7 it's great, Omni does a great job on it's browser(Just make sure to turn off "Start drawing web pages before they are completely loaded" on slower machines). I remember using Omni back on Mac OS X Public Beta, brings back good memories of not using IE.

I'm having quite a few problems with Omni including macosx.com, maybe its just some settings or something but I don't see them.

1) Background images aren't loading
2) Some images (navigation bars) are loading incorrectly (off center)

Any ideas...anyone else with this problem.

The only reason I think it might be me is that its been like this for the past two or three builds.

I'm not seeing this at all. Any settings in your preferences that might mess things up? I found quite a few sites which didn't load correctly when I had the "Don't load images from another server" checked. Basically because a lot of sites nowadays are using another server for the images alone...

Ok, I've reported the feature missing several times to their site for over a year now, and still they don't support something the new Netscape, Opera, Mozilla, iCab, and Explorer support. Stylesheet borders. Even w3.org says this is a standard and has a page about the standard. http://www.w3.org/TR/xsl/

Can you believe it? A browser has the gall to charge for their software, and doesn't support basic standards that all browsers now support.

I rechecked OW prefs and couldn't find anything that wasn't already set to default. If you want to take a look at what I'm getting check it out here.

There's something wrong with this beta.

Sometimes when idling, Omniweb will use 50% of my CPU cycles.

It was doing this to me a few mins ago, and I reloaded the exact same page and Omniweb was using 5-8% CPU cycles.

i agree....beta 7 has cashed several times for me today. beta 6 was rock solid (for me anyway). but i guess that is the point of betas :)

Just a note about CPU cycles. I recently was doing some downloading via iCab. I had one window open with links and the download manager window as open. When the download manager window was the front window CPU usage was near 100%. If the link window was open it was near zero. A few hours later I continued this exercise on another computer - same version of OS X, same version of iCab, same links. In this case the CPU usage was near 100% if either window was the front window. Clicking the desktop dropped it back to near zero.
The point is that it seems to come up a lot that two computers running what seems to be the same versions of software can behave quite differently. I think we shouldn't be too quick to blame any particular application unless we see the same thing happening on several systems.

I think we are all still on the learning curve with OS X.

Whoa that looks really strange. It has not happened to me before. When did the problem first start to occur? Was it with the current beta?
Btw where did you get that cool desktop picture from?;)

It's been doing it for the past few versions of OW...maybe past 3 or 4...the reason I haven't really used it at all. I really don't have any idea about how to fix it. Any ideas on some settings that might be the cause of this?

By the way I got the desktop picture from digitalblasphemy.com

They have lots of other cool desktop pics too.

have you any of the ad-blocking features turned on? maybe 'ignore pix from other servers'? i don't understand why you're getting this. ow doesn't behave like that on my computers.

Sorry if you've already tried this but I'd suggest trying to start with a clean slate.

Quit OW.

Go to the Library folder in your home directory. Open Application Support.
Move the OmniWeb folder to the trash.
Restart OW and see if it works OK. If it does and you don't need the bookmarks you are done.
If you want to recover your bookmarks, quit OW, drag the bookmarks file out of the trash and put it in the new OmniWeb folder in your home directory. If this causes the problem to return then you will have to live without this bookmark file.
