Hi again all,

Thanks for the replies on helping me load OS 9.2.1 on the Power Computing 180. I downloaded the OS 9.2 Helper and just now saw a reply telling me that I have to have OS 9.1 installed before it will work. I have been trying to install over OS 8.6. and have not been getting anywhere with it!

Can anyone provide me wiith a copy of OS 9.1? I am only going to install it so I can install my copy of OS 9.2.1 over it. I can cover shipping and the disc.

I'm new to the Mac world and am slowly learning my way around the box.

Thanks again, Mark

Providing you with a copy of OS 9 would be illegal -- it's against the license agreement. You need to purchase a full, legal copy of OS 9 to be able to upgrade from 8.6.

Unfortunately, Apple does not sell OS 9 anymore -- you'll need to grab it from some other store. :(

I concur with with EDCC regarding the legality of aquiring a copy of OS 9. However, you should be able to get it for a good price since Apple doesn't sell it anymore and hasn't for some years now. Check out Low End Mac for a list of vendors from which to purchase Mac OS 9. You can also try PriceGrabber for sopme good prices as well.

...just make sure it's a white-label, retail copy of OS 9 (not 9.2, 9.2.1 or 9.2.2), and that the CD is not a gray-colored, system-specific version of OS 9.

Your machine will not boot anything higher than 9.1 (although you can install 9.2.1 or 9.2.2 with OS9Helper -- you just need to boot into OS 9 or 9.1 first), and the gray-colored, system-specific OS 9 disks usually only boot machines that came with a G3 or better processor.
