OS X 10.1 Updating issues...

So I'll try and as briefly as possibly explain this clearly.
I got 10.1
However, I can't have a ton of programs unless I have something higher...so I've been attempting updates. I did the security updates it says to do, but for anything else I need to do an Installer Update 1.0 .
I've done the following process so many times...
I: Download, Open installer, go through every process until where it asks for a destination.
It shows my hard drive as there, but not as an option to click.
Therefore, leaving me with no place to install this Installer Update.
Any thoughts?

If you want to get past OS X 10.1 with any updates, you MUST download and install THE UPDATE FROM THIS PAGE first. Updates will not work (unless you still have one that was downloaded BEFORE this security update was released) until you do that. BTW, the installer update 1.0 that you mention was replaced by the above security update, and that is the only one that will allow further updates.
Only then will you be able to update with the 10.1.5 Combo updater, which is as far as you can go with OS X 10.1

I'd get Panther if I were you; 10.1 was barely better than 10.0, and that wasn't ready to be release to the masses (sorry Apple! :()

I'm a teen all, 130 bucks on a computer I only use for music and school's more excessive then my designer jeans...
But again, thank you guys for your help!

Yup, did that. I've got all of those security updates-just not the Installer Update that both the 10.1.3 and 10.1.5 say I need in order to install.
The problem with the Installer Update is that I cannot select a destination.

Just trying to help here, but the Installer Update that you have mentioned (twice now) is NOT valid, and has been replaced (over 2 years ago). Please refer to THIS PAGE for ALL valid updates for 10.1.x
Look especially at the bottom of the page, Note #8
Everything is there to get your 10.1 updated!

what happened to the Installer Update? It was rolled into the Security Update, which is why that is all you need. There are 2 Security Updates. You only need one, depending on whether you have 10.1, or a later 10.1.x system.

Hey-I really, really appreciate your help, but first, the second link you've given is different from the first. I went to the first, downloaded and installed that. The updates I get STILL say I need this Installer Update, hence my repeating it. I'll go the second now and get everything I don't have-but something tells me I'll end up back where I started.

Thank you again though, good to know there are still kind people in this world.

Are you still trying to use an update that was downloaded when the update was originally released (2 years ago)? The security update that I listed PREVENTS installing any update that was downloaded prior to realease of that update, you must download current updates. The updates listed on the page I referenced, ALSO HERE, are the only updates you need. Also refer to THIS PAGE for more info about updating 10.1 properly, which refers you back to THIS PAGE ! I give you several links, but they are really all the same info.

*Informing, not busting chops*

Since you are using 10.1, I imagine that you are using a computer that is around 4 years old. It will be of great benefit to upgrade Jaguar or even Panther, amazing how much better older equipment works with the newer OS. As a student you can get the new software for less than the designer jeans... $70. Thats two weekends of ferocious lawnmowing or 12 weeks of a 5 dollar allowance. (oops, 14 weeks ;))

The result is worth the effort. Go to Apple Store Educational to check it out.

Thanks guys I'm still trying...
And about buying it, one, we don't lawnmow in san francisco, and two...I don't use my computer enough to spend that much money on something.
I really just want to have the new iTunes...
