OS X install DVD takes forever to boot

I made a copy of the DVD install disk for backup purposes, using my built in combo drive (G4/MDD) as the "source" drive an a new external firewire Pioneer DVR-109 as the "target" disk.

The burn completed flawlessly.

If I put the new disk in the DVR-109 that made it, it mounts immediately.

If I put the new disk in the combo drive, it takes a long time to mount, and when it finally mounts, takes about 10 minutes to boot up.

Why would the same DVD take that much longer to function in one drive vs. another?

What speed did you burn the disc at? Sometimes it helps if you make a disk image of the DVD on your hard drive first, then burn that to a DVD-R.

You may not have gotten a perfectly "clean" copy by going straight from DVD to DVD-R -- that's not to say anything's wrong with the disk, but if the DVD-writer has to keep pausing the burn to wait for the buffer to fill again and again, it may not have produced the highest-quality copy.
