OS X missing file server

I backup and restore my Apple Mini and find that me DLink DNS-323 file server missing. When I access the dLink server with my PC, it is still there and all files are there. But when I try to connect it with my Apple computer (Finder->Go->Connect to Server-> server's IP address or server name), It failed with error code -36 and cannot find the server. Somehow it added "afp://" before the IP address.

However, iTune still shows the server as a shared music source. And my mp3 are still there.

I can also get to the file server from the server's home page. I believe, D-Link runs a Samba file server.

Anyone has any idea how to solve the problem?

Thanks in advance

Try putting "smb://" before the IP address in the "Connect to Server" dialog. This will force an SMB connection.

If you simply type an IP address without a prefix, then the default is the AFP protocol ("afp://"). If the server is not serving devices over AFP, then the connection will fail. Appending "smb://" before the IP address will force an SMB/Samba connection.

Thank you. This was exactly my problem as well and your advice solved it. Now if I can only fix the grey hair that this problem caused me...
