osx file problem

I recently received Hairspray 2 Disc Collector's Edition Soundtrack. The Second CD is enhanced and the instructions say to insert the cd, double click on its icon, open the "openme.osx" file and click on the videos when the menu loads. When I do this I get access to the cd flv files, an auto run file, .exe file, song, and xml file, and an the openme.osx which when clicked on open a big black screen. The flvs open up a blank documentation box... help!

Is this disk from Sony, by any chance? If it is, I hope you opened it using Mac OS, not Windows. Some Sony CDs had rootkit installers on them.

No Sony discs being sold at retail contain any kind of rootkit today.

They once did, a few years ago, but they only affected a small number of Sony CDs and they were all recalled after Sony got their hand slapped in court.

Unless you're purchasing Sony CDs second-hand, you have nothing to worry about concerning rootkits, even on Windows machines. Their time has come and gone and they don't exist anymore.
