OSX Newbie Confused...

Hello there!

I just bought a new G4 PowerBook...

I have several questions:

(1) How do you permanently change the background/foreground colors in the Terminal? I tried with Terminal Preferences, but the color change was only for that one instance...

(2) Sometimes, when I leave computer running, the screen turns blue... Is this because I changed the Expose settings? Where can I go to change these settings?

(3) Is there anything similar to a Trillian (chat software) for the MacOSX?

Sorry for the questions...

With thanks,

Unnsse

1) When you open the "Terminal Inspector" from the Terminal menu and select your colors, click the "Use Settings as Defaults" button at the bottom of the window.

2) Sounds like the computer is either going to sleep, showing a screensaver, or trying to log you out after XX minutes of inactivity. To see if it's going to sleep, open the "Energy Saver" pane of the System Preferences. To see if it's displaying a screensaver, open the "Desktop & Screen Saver" pane of the System Preferences. To see if it's trying to log you out after XX minutes of inactivity, open the "Security" pane of the System Preferences.

3) If Trillian is a multi-chat service program, then yes: there are plenty of alternatives to Trillian. Check out Adium at:
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/23031
and also bookmark http://www.versiontracker.com. It is the definitive resource for finding shareware/freeware/commercial updates and programs for Macintosh computers on the 'net.

And don't apologize for the questions! Please, feel free to visit as much as you like and post as many questions as you like. If you have a question that you feel may have been asked before, hit up the search function here. Glad to have you!

I installed Fire, and it doesn't have any of my buddies! Do I have to import them manually and is it going to re-ask all of my buddies if I have permission to add them?

Hi Untz
Proteus is also a pretty good multi-chat-thingymebob-gizmo. Don't know the answer to your buddy question sorry.

proteus is shareware, fire is free but neither are as good as adium which is free. best msg app on any platform/os period. uses all 4 main services.

You have to add your buddies to Fire. If you have AIM, ICQ, etc already set up with your buddy list, you can indeed import. If you still have trouble, let me know. I'll give you the step by step.

Yes, you can just save your buddy list in MSN, AIM, ICQ or whatever and import it into Fire. It won't ask them again whether you are allowed to add them.
