Forgive me if this is a repost.....search function was disabled.

My G5 switches itself off upon restart, if i try to reset the machine again it start's to boot up with the apple icon thn switches off again...it takes at least 10mins or more to get the machine up again as normal.

I have run the disk utility, repaired permissions and verified the disk but there were no errors. Problem occured again upon restart.

At first i thought it may be a font conflict so i moved the fonts from my user directory and tried to restart...again same problem occured.

When i try booting through safe boot it starts just fine.

Hardware or Software issue?

Confused??

G5 1.2GHz 1Gb RAM
Mac OSX 10.3.9

What was the last thing you installed before the problems started? I'm leaning towards a software issue since Safemode worked but I've seen Safemode working with bad ram before. Go to the Apple Menu/About this Mac and make sure the right amount of Ram is displayed. Let us know ...

Got any USB devices (especially an USB hub) attached to the computer other than the stock Apple keyboard/mouse? They're notorious for causing startup/shutdown/sleep problems.

i don't have any usb devices connected to the mac apart from the apple mouse and keyboard. Tried unplugging these but the problem still occurs upon restart.

The last program i installed was Adobe CS2, it was at the start of the year sometime...can't recall exactly. I have been having this problem for about a month now, i usually leave my macs up all the time the only time they will go down is in the event of a power surge or the need to restart the system if it becomes sluggish.

Have also checked the RAM...all seem to be working fine.

The thing that puzzles me is the mac won't startup correctly emediately after a restart, it switches off when the apple icon screen appears, but if i leave it to sit for about 10-15mins it seems to come good....meaning it starts up with no crashes or errors as it would normally.
