OSX Snow Leopard and Canon Scanner

Hi

We previously had our Canoscan 9900F Scanner working successfully under OSX Tiger, but have now replaced that machine with one running OSX Snow Leopard.

The scanner doesn't seem to be recognised now. Wondered if anyone had a similar problem and/or have any tips to get it working, or am I off to the shop for a new one?!

Thanks
Neil

check Software Update, see if a new driver is ready for 10.6.

Well as I was typing this I discovered Canon is not supporting this scanner anymore. So your only other choice is to use check out the shareware VueScan since is says it supports the 9900F.

I have a Canon 8600 scanner which I imagine is older than the 9900. I found that the latest drivers from Canon worked fine in 10.6. These drivers are not brand new.

You must follow the installation instructions carefully. First uninstall any old drivers. Canon has an unstaller. Then install the drivers and finally the Canon toolbox.

The Canoscan 8600 has drivers specified for 10.6 - so should be working OK.
Unfortunately, the OP has a 9900f (the model number is not always a good indication of the age), and nothing suggests Canon supports that scanner past OS X 10.4 - so Canon is no longer supporting that for newer OS X version. Outside of some third-party solution - probably not worth messing with a non-supported or 'obsolete' model. The Canon model that replaced that 9900f (the 9950f) is fine with 10.6
