Outgoing mail problems w/ Mail and Fios

Hi all,

I'm running Mail on a G5 with 10.4.11, and have had Gmail, GoDaddy and .mac mail pushed through and sent out easily--until now. We switched to Fios, and while receiving mail is no problem, outgoing mail is terrible.

I have tried every possible outgoing mail server address in the Mail account preferences: the Gmail, GoDaddy and .mac ones, also outgoing.verizon.net. They all work sporadically. There seems to be lots of discussion of this problem out there, but no answer... Anybody have any suggestions?

Verizon may be blocking port 25 on your IP address in order to prevent you from being a mail relay, which are notorious for being sources of spam.

Usually all that's required is a simple call to Verizon to ask them to remove the block on port 25 for your IP address.

If the email server is 2001 or greater you can just change the SMTP server from port 25 to port 587. Most ISPs block port 25 to stop spammers and because they are greedy.
