Hello All
I am new at this so bear with me and this is going to sound like a pretty stupid and basic question but. How do you changes the ownership and permissions on files if the permissions are greyed out saying (read only)??

Well because of security you have to have an Administrator account. All you have to do is highlight the file you want to change, then do a Get Info ( command button+i) on the file. You can change file permissions through the pop up window from the Get Info.

Yes, you can do it in the Get Info window, but the key is to click the lock and enter the proper admin credentials. Just remember that the permissions DONT propogate to the folders below, and that you'll need to use the Terminal or some other utility to propogate the permissions if that's what you need to do.
