Panther installation problem

I just got Panther last night and tried to install it on my Power Mac 933 with Jaguar. I think I have a rather serious problem.

First time, installation basically was stopped (upgrade). After trying this a couple of times, I did "archive and install." With this option, I was able to install all three CD's and my Mac was up and running. I played with it a little bit and decided that I needed macam installed. So, I installed macam under Library/QuickTime folder and rebooted the computer.

The problem now is that, whenever I click any area of the white login window, the system basically stops responding. So, I cannot login. The only thing I can do is to boot it with the CD and re-install the whole thing again.

I've tried this twice but I still have the same problem. Could any of you please give me some insight on this problem?

By the way, I had no problem with my PowerBookG4: upgraded from 10.2.8.

I am quite frustrated... but I find Panther in general responds much faster than jaguar.

Thanks for the help in advance,

Well, after trying for almost a day to get it work, I finally did a clean install. It works now, sigh...
