Panther Slow to boot and login

I noticed the 10.3.2 really slowed down startup. Not only that, but I also noticed that it takes a really long time for my Mac to get into the Finder with automatic login enabled. I get the spinning beachball a lot and it takes maybe up to 10-15 seconds before I can work (it used to seriously be like 3 seconds before it was a beast). Any fixes for this?

Repair permissions, and disable startup items that may not be necessary. A disk utility program may be useful as well (e.g., macjanitor, cocktail).

under "Tip to fix Slow 10.3.2 Booting." Type that command into the terminal, restart twice, and boom! Fast startup again.
