Panther Upgrade Disk or Retail. Any differences?

Hi all,
Ok, bought a G4 17" Powerbook some years ago and later that year bought Mac OS 10.3 Panther to upgrade the OS. Later I upgraded again with Tiger.
I've sold the Panther disks on eBay and i've been told by the purchasor that they are UPGRADE disks and not Retail versions.

Is that possible? I thought there was only one version and it upgraded your system if you had a previous Mac OS 10.? or freshly installed if you don't. Thats what the paperwork says. (Leopard only sells as one version - well 2 if you include Server!)

Have I got upgrade disks or is this person scamming me and made a copy and wants to get their money back?

cheers for the help
SK

This may or may not be the case. Did you pay Apple $20 for those upgrade disks, or did you purchase them for $129?

If $20 from Apple, then yes, they are most likely "upgrade" disks which won't work unless there is already an existing Mac OS X installation on the hard drive (and that would probably have to be Mac OS X 10.2). I believe Apple only ever offered this with Jaguar and Panther (possibly Puma).

If $129, then they're full-install versions and the purchaser is scammin' yo' ass. ;)
