Parallels and Windows XP

Is there any downside to having Parallels and Windows XP on my Mac Book Pro? (2.6 Ghz, 4 Mb Ram, 200 Gb HD) I was "jittery" about going with a Mac cold turkey so spent the extra money getting Parallels and Windows XP installed. Windows works fine except I've had it for 4 months now and have never needed to use it. Does it do anything negative except take up hard drive space; i.e. take performance away from Mac apps?

Should I uninstall it or just leave it there in case I should ever want or need it?

It takes up hard drive space whether it's running or not.

It takes up RAM (lots of it) when it's running.

Whether you keep it or uninstall it is completely up to you -- there's no right or wrong decision. Is it that valuable to you? Is it taking up that much space on your hard drive?

Why don't you just keep Parallels installed (a relatively small amount of space taken) and just back up the Windows XP virtual machine to an external hard drive or something? The virtual machine itself is what takes up the most space.
