Partitioning Troubles

So I put in the WinXP disc, open boot camp asst. and it prompts me to set partition size. I set it to 32GB and hit continue, BC loads a little progress bar, and the app freezes; after a couple minutes it wakes up and gives me a popup that says that it was unable to partition mac HD.

So I reboot my computer and try again, this time setting Partition size to 40GB,
and my computer completely locks up.

So I shut it down, yell at it, and reboot. This time I open Disk Utility and click verify disc, and my 'puter dies again.

What might be the problem, and how might I go about fixing it?

Edit: I ran Verify disk again and got the following message:
"FIRST AID FAILED
Disk Utility stopped verifying “Macintosh HD” because the following error was encountered:
Filesystem verify or repair failed."
What is this?!

Time to try to repair your hard drive.
Boot to your OS X installer. Go to the Disk Utility, from the Utilities menu.
Select your hard drive, and click the Repair Disk button - different from Repair Disk Permissions.
If that doesn't help, then you will need some disk repair app that might help, such as Disk Warrior.
If Disk Warrior doesn't help, then you should back up your important files, and have the hard drive replaced. You could try an erase and install again, but I suspect that your hard drive is failing.
