PB Battery gone Haywire??

Hey there,

Since beginning of the week my PB battery's gone a bit doo-lally! When charging it started showing it would take 9:30 hrs to finish charging, then when it thought it was charged and I removed the AC, it would say it was going to run for 9hrs! (Would be nice, eh?) It would then go to sleep after only about an hour. Just before doing so it would still be showing full when I clicked the button on the battery itself and would also show about 90% in the battery meter in OS X. I tried a control/option/power when shut down to no avail, and have just tried resetting the PROM (option/command/p/r while booting), so I'll be interested to see how that works out.

Has anyone else experienced anything similar? Any ideas / hints / tips?

On the subject of batteries - I read on (I think) /. that there's a new tech been developed - Li-S (Lithium Suphur) which is lighter and produces better battery life ... lets hope they are able to commercialise this soon and Apple adopts it! ;)

Cheers,

Oooh - and I forgot to mention that it shows as being fully charged only an hour or so after claiming it was completely empty. Technically this is normal behaviour for a really old battery - only a) mine isn't old (got it in Jan I think) and b) last week it was behaving normally. Hrm.
Arseing Apple Batteries!

My powerbook battery is crap too. If i unplug my machine i get the 'low battery' warning message in about 30 minutes. However it'll stay at 2 minutes left for about another 30 minutes.

Also if your battery isn't even a year old you should tell Apple and get a new one. Their spendy suckers.

Thanks twister, I'll give that a go ... also been checking up on some other threads in here on similar issues. I think I might try that thing going into single user mode and letting the battery completely drain. May help, who knows ;)
I'm now starting to wish I'd gotten the 17" PB after all - the 12" may be more portable, but with this kind of battery performance its about as good a mobile computer as an IBM mainframe!!! (I'm exaggerating, of course, but I'm ticked off!) :D
Cheers,

Good luck with the drain issue. Doesn't help me but it may you. I just need a new battery. But i can't see spending the $$ when it's usually plugged in. :)

Yup - I've been having to do that continuously since I've had the bloody thing ;) ... what's new is that this isn't working any more :D - should have mentioned that in my first post, soz. :)

Damn it! No luck with the fiddling in single user mode (pun intended). Interestingly ioreg shows the battery as having a whopping capacity:
"IOBatteryInfo" = ({"Capacity"=19909,"Amperage"=1443,"Current"=19293,"Voltage"=11079,"Flags"=4})
It would be nice. But I believe the capacity should be around the 4000 mark?

Hrm.
