Hi, I am in big trouble, hope someone can help me.

I have owned my powerbook g4 12 inch 1.33ghz for about 1 and a half year, it had been nice to me until today. I am currently on Panther (not sure which is the latest update I have. It won't boot for me, it starts out as a white screen with the apple logo and suddenly it leads me to the black screen with this message:

-sh:/etc/profile :is a directory
-sh-2.05b# in6_ifattach_linklocal: failed to configure a link-local address on lo0(errno=55)
in6_ifattach: lo0 failed to attach a link local address

Before it was just -sh:/etc/profile :is a directory

I ran fsck -f and in the end I got the message something like the file was modified.
I also tried running disk utility from the install CD but even had trouble ejecting it out (had to type in ejecting command on the open firmware window)

I have no idea what else to do anymore, I have no knowledge about the Unix system. I desperately need your help to get my mac running again. Please help! I hope there's better way than bringing my PB to the store. Thanks!

If fsck say the system was modified, then keep running it until it say nothing was modified. The fsck usually tries to fix hard drive errors. If you still have an the install disks, then run the hardware test. You may have a hard drive failing.
