Hello,
I installed os9 on a PB3400/200/48Mb/2Gb.Then iTunes 2.
All runs ok but when connecting the headphone/amplifier there is no sound out. Is the sound control panel compatible with the 3400? Apple does not recommend 0s9.Would it be possible to use sound control panel for a wallstreet on the 3400?Or is there another solution?
thanks if someone also tried this with more luck
Peter

Do the internal speakers work OK?
Just no output from the headphone jack?
Can you hear other sounds through the headphone jack? (not iTunes, but anything else that produces sound). If not, you may have a faulty headphone jack.
The iTunes 2 system requirements state 'iTunes works with all Macintosh computers that have built-in USB ports.' That should leave out your old 3400, but if it works, then great!
The sound control panel is the same, regardless of the system that has OS 9 installed. The options that might be available would be set by the hardware where it is installed. If you copy that from the wallstreet to the 3400, then you will still see the same 3400 options, and nothing about the wallstreet.

iTunes 2.0.4 (the last release for pre-Mac OS X systems) only requires a PowerPC system running Mac OS 9.0.4 or later... there was never a USB port requirement.

Infact, the only built-in USB ports or built-in Firewire ports that pop up in any of the iTunes/iPod products is when connecting an iPod to iTunes.

How compatible is iTunes 2.0.4 with older hardware? It runs just fine on Nubus based Power Macintoshes if they are running 9.0.4 or later... and there is no way to get any type of USB on those old systems.

Personally, there was nothing compelling about iTunes 2.0.x for me. I run iTunes 1.0 on my PowerBook 3400c in Mac OS 8.6 (which runs better on the 3400c than Mac OS 9 does).

hi DeltaMac and RacerX,
thanks for the reply,
There is no sound whatsoever on the jack, opened the PB and even on the sound chip there is no output, although the 4 internal speakers work.I only use iTunes on the 3400 so I can live with a little delay on commands, for the rest iTunes2 runs perfect in os9 with 48M ram, unbelievable, just the output drawback.RacerX I'll try your link and let you know.
I have put os 8.6 and iTunes1 on the 3400 for friends but I like a little more bells on my MP3 player then just a large screen.
thanks guys
Peter

hi RacerX,
What I meant was I tried that extension i.s.o the original but the problem remains. In the control panel the settings for the output are not shown as in OX8.6 . I know it sound strange but everything works fine as stand alone just no output on the jack.
going back to OS8.6 and the jack works fine.So it's not a hardware but an initialisation error.

but thanks for the time to reply
I couldn't reply earlier was abroad for the job.

Peter
