PC<>Mac hardware

First of all - sorry for my English (explains terribly, but understand good).

I'm plannig to buy Mac G4 and have a question - will my PC hardware (listed below) work on Mac?

Hadrware:
USB keyboard Windrover WK-712
Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse (USB)
DVD-ROM Nec
Sony G220 (twin input - mac/pc) display

And sorry for off-top. - is it possible for me on Mac OS X to share ADSL internet with WindowsXP-based PC (ADSL modem in PC)?

Thanks.

Your hardware should work with your mac. I don't know your keyboard, but generel functions will probably work. If you have some additional keys, it might be a slight problem to use them on your mac. Maybe there is a mac driver?!
Your mouse will work just fine. There are even drivers for mac if you are using the explorer mouse. For others you should check M$ homepage. Those drivers are just needed for any additional keys on your mouse. Left and right click will work without any driver and of course mouse move. ;)
DVD-Rom: Let me say: should work.
Sony display: works for sure (if it has d-sub or DVI plug)

About sharing ADSL: no problem! when you got your mac, come back to this forum and we'll tell you step by step.

Welcome to the forum, Minsky!

Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse (USB) Like a champ, though it's still a Microsoft product.
DVD-ROM Nec What kind of input does it use? If it's not Firewire (or USB 2 for later Macs, though not the G4's), then you will need an adaptor.
Sony G220 (twin input - mac/pc) display Sure... might need an adaptor, but it will work.

Sure. I'm not sure how, but sure.

Thank you, Zammy-Sam!

Just one more little question about memory - as a designer, I'm permanently using Photoshop and Flash.
So, how much memory should I buy (answers like "1Gb should cover it" not acceptable :) minimal for smooth and non-swapping work? And also - which GPU: GF2MX/4MX or Radeon7500/9K ?

1 GB will be fine... I would say make sure you have 512 MB, minimum.

And either the GF4 (any), or the Radeon 8600 or 9600.

About the keyboard, you won't need it to work, you'll get a keyboard with the Mac anyways...

same to the mouse, right?
About Ram: if you are going to your apple shop and order a G4 Mac, you should take as less memory as possible. Why? You can buy the memory afterwards and you will save a lot of money.
And keep your hands off the GF4 mx! I would recommend GF5xxx or Ardens Radeons. If the budget allows, go for those Radeon "Pro" ones

No, not the same to the mouse. The mouse will work perfectly with OS X, and you don't want the 1-button mouse that follows the computer...

Thank you everybody.

It's very cool that you may buy only one real diamond (G4) and take a bit of pebble (PC stuff) with you from ugly PC.

Well, I'll take G4 w/128Mb, then upgrade to 512 and work for about a month. If it doesn't suit me, I'll take 1Gb.
(Maybe money left for iPod :) )

Thanks again.

The greatest site for hardware adds compatibility IMHO is http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/. You can most always rest in the knowledge that some Mac user in the world has tried what you are trying.

The Apple keyboard is excellent, though basic compared to those "multimedia" keyboards they have with Internet buttons, email, etc. However, if you could care less about that, definitely keep the Apple keyboard and your MS mouse.

And check out www.ramseeker.com for RAM prices.

i'm a graphic designer and we've G4 933 Mhz towers in our office. I maxed it out to 1 GB. I would highly recommend 1 GB RAM.
