Plug-in for Yahoo! Mail?

Hie!

Is there any plugin for Mail.app that will allow download of mail from Yahoo Mail, like httpmail does with hotmail?

I'm not sure where you are, but I know if you have a UK yahoo account, you can just set up mail app to collect your mail like any other pop account.

There are details on the Yahoo Mail website about what server names to use, I've been doing it for years.

Bloody right it's a rip-off. They took that ability away from us a few years ago. I'm still peeved. Grrrrr

Try to set up your yahoo accounts details so that you are according to it in UK. That might fool it enough...

yeah i used yahoo when they had that ability... though i live in Pakistan. Maybe if i can signup for a US yahoo account, i might be able to sign up for a UK yahoo account and use the servers!!! Worth a try isnt it!?

yes, you can do that.

i signed up in the 90s for yahoo brazil account. then ichanged the settings to be in italy - still conserving the mail address as usernamewhatever.. @yahoo.com.br - i could with yahoo italy use the popmaila (load yahoo mail from mail apps) untill last year. or maybe untill being in US? it worked fine in uk, everywhere else in europe. hm. :-/

yahoo is not the only alternative. altern.org gives you 15 or 20 mb space, and you can use it with mail apps or in its minimal webmail. also email.it gives 15 mb space, it adds an advertising line in the end of the mails, but that works when you are in US too. altern adds nothing.

Thanks Giaguara! altern.org is exactly the sort of thing I was looking for. I hate trying to correspond with hotmail users - their addresses keep changing every few months, as their mailboxes fill up, and you never know when you won't be able to reach them...

edit -
Except that it doesn't keep sent messages. Nothing's perfect, I guess. Still, pop3 service not tied to a particular ISP is always good.

Hey,
Recently i've been using SoftHome.net, but the problem with that is that those guys have a grey-listing feature that you cant turn off. It keeps on bouncing my email back. Sometimes i get my emails late, and sometimes i dont get them at all!

So does the same thing happen with altern.org??
If not, i'd be happy to swith to altern.org

That doesn;t seem to happen with altern. It is quite trustable, I've had an account there for years.

Now I have an otehr there and I'm testing new features.
With altern you can use different submails. So if you e.g. write to usenets, you can use normally the address yourusername@altern.org, and create one for the usenet use - e.g. yourusername-usenet@altern.org, it appears under the 'autres emails' bar. It can be a very good feature when tracking down where your spams come from. If you are curious about that, I'd use one separate sub address for every purpose or every possible spammer or registration. so yourusername-msnstuff@altern.org, yourusername-lameaddress@altern.org, -registrationsaddress, -lameaddress, etc. ;)
