Power Mac G3/ 4

While I've been thinking about upgrading my mac, I've seen a lot of old, cheap G3 and G4 Power Macs being sold around the 450mhz range. I was wondering, how hard and expensive is it to upgrade the cpu in one of these machines? I was thinking about buying one and totally doing it up with new ram, harddrives etc and then investing in a 20" cinema display. I've only really ever played with PC's when upgrading except for RAM but I figured because these are going so cheap if I messed up it's not the end of the world anyway.

Thanks for any help.

Stay away from the ZIF-based G3 and G4 towers (the beige and B&W G3s and the Yikes! version of the G4) -- they top out at 600MHz G4 (1GHz G3) for 100MHz bus speed and 1.0GHz G4 for 66MHz bus speeds. Hardly upgradeable.

If you wish to go this route, get at least an AGP-based G4 tower, as they can go up to 2.0GHz G4s.
