Powerbook 15" wrist support area broken!

I was picking up my powerbook yesterday one handed. I heard a snap and the area under my right wrist (above the CD) is now flexing about a third of a millimeter. It does not appear to affect the computer performance, but the machine is still under warranty.

Problem is, I live in the sticks, and to send this unit in to service is both expensive and time consuming. SHould I bother, or is it worth sending?

If it's still under warranty, yeah, I'd do it. Since Apple is going to pay for shipping. The only thing you'll really lose is time. Where is "the sticks," exactly?

The sticks is in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory. I had to return this unit once allready (screen failed after two days), and it was a terrible pain. They DON't pay for shipping - they told me to 'bring it in' to a shop in Vancouver - just over 1100 miles away! Apple product support sucks if you don't live next door to a retailer.

Don't pay for shipping? Crap in a bucket, dude, that sucks! Huh. Silly me. That's weird. When i shipped my 'book in with AppleCare, they sent me a box, prepaid, pre-addressed, and all that.

I hate to throw cold water on this one, but Apple may consider this accidental damage, and may not repair under warranty. However, you should try AppleCare again, remind them how far out you live, and ask for a box (Canadian service may be somewhat different. In US, the AppleCare cust can usually get a prepaid box (that service may not be available to you because of your location) to send a PoweBook in for warranty service.

I have seen this 'spongy' wrist rest several times on TiBooks. Might not ever affect operation, but it is right on top of the CD drive, which doesn't have much space to start!

I'd say, if it doesn't affect your machine's performance and it's not overly annoying, just try to ignore it. You'll probably get used to it anyway, and you'll have your computer for that much longer than if you were shipping it all over North America.
