Powerbook G3 Won't Boot to External Display

I am trying to revive an old Wallstreet to use as a back up. It has a dead screen. It will boot from the 10.2 Jaguar install disk and the begining of the boot process will show up on an external monitor but near the end of the boot process, the monitor goes black and the signal light goes from green to yellow - I can't see anything...

Is there a way to complete the boot process using an external monitor?
 
Not without tricking the computer into thinking that the main LCD display is not connected... the OS X Installer defaults to the main screen, and the computer doesn't know the screen is dead.

If you're daring enough, you could try disconnecting the bad display from the motherboard, but it would require delicate hands and a bit of know-how... it's not for the novice unless you don't mind damaging the 'book.

I believe there should be a Service Manual somewhere on this page:

Thanks - that was the answer I didn't want to hear - I just fininshed swapping the display out of that machine and it is a big job removing the screen - but at least now, I know there isn't an easier fix...thanks again!
