Powerbook G4 Lockup

Not sure if this belongs here or in the hardware section. When I plug headphones into the headphone jack, the computer stops responding. It does not matter what application I am in. The mouse will still move but the curser changes to the spinning colorwheel. As soon as I unplug the headphones, the computer operates normally. The only software that I have recently installed is Final Cut Pro and DVD Studio Pro 2. I have used these packages on this machine before without a problem. I am running Tiger 10.4.2. I see no apparent damage to the headphone jack

Any suggestions

You may have one of two things wrong. The first fix you should try is to reset the NVRAM by these steps:

1. Restart your Mac holding down the Command, Option, O, F keys. Wait a few seconds and you will enter the Open Firmware mode.
2. Type: reset-nvram
3. Press the Return key (this will return you to the prompt, your nvram settings are now reset to factory default).
4. Then type: reset-all
5. Press the Return key (this will reset your machine and it should restart into OS X).

The second thing that might be wrong is hardware or logic board problem. If the reset of nvam does not fix it, get help with the machine. A good resource (in the States) can be found at you local Apple Specialist. Good luck.

Satcomer,

Thanks for the suggestion...unfortunately, it did not help. I will try to post a fix when I find one. If anyone else has a suggestion, please reply.

Thanks,
